Why Progressive Sales Strategies?
Sales has received a bad reputation and this blog is designed to dispel the myths surrounding sales and marketing; especially that salespeople are always pushy.
The strategies outlined here are meant to be a guide to promote transparency, respect, and to help you provide your clients with needs-based solutions versus sales for the sake of making you a quick buck.
PSS is about long-term, friendly, and fun business relationships with experience drawn from proven tactics I use on the front-lines everyday.
How Do I Pronounce Your Name?
I usually describe my first name as rhyming with Cameron Diaz’s last name but with an ‘R’ instead of a ‘D’ and my last name sounds like the CD in CD player.
What’s Your Background?
I was born in London, England in 1984 and moved to Canada at the age of 3.
My father was born in Nairobi, Kenya and my mum was born in Kampala, Uganda.
My ancestors are South Asian from the state of Gujarat in India.
When people ask, I usually give this aforementioned spiel and they usually ask: so where are you really from?
The Answer: Canada! I am a hockey-loving, beer-drinking, French-speaking Canadian! I have never been to Africa or India so although my heritage and race may spark an initial connection, I am sure I would be lost in two seconds in either region.
Of course, I was very privileged to be raised eating excellent Indian cuisine.
I am very proud of my multicultural background and although it influences aspects of my life it does not define me as a person – we are each unique and no culture, geographic region, race, or variable, etc. can truly capture who you are as a person – I believe we are more similar than we are different.
Why Is There A Picture Of You Shaving?
I initially had a logo that included several pictures of me but the one people asked about repeatedly was the one of me shaving.
Practicing what I preach, I eliminated the other images and it seems this has become my brand.
It’s funny and for me it symbolizes the millenial generation growing up into the post-recession working world where having facial hair is still sometimes a no-no.
You look so young, what gives you the right to tell me how to sell?
Well first it’s not a right, it’s a privilege.
Second, my learning style is one in which I must teach others to absorb new information myself.
Don’t let the blog fool you, I’m no expert, I’m simply using you as an audience member to better my own game in the sales world. 😛

Riaz, What Do You Sell?
I work as an Advertising Sales Manager with the best New Business Development Advertising Sales Team on the planet (personal bias acknowledged). We sell digital advertising solutions for the best daily metropolitan online newspaper in Canada’s capital, Ottawa.
In the past I managed a team of business development representativess who did lead generation in French pitching clients on corporate credit cards to companies in Quebec with annual revenues of $2+ million.
I have also sold online directory listings, websites, Search Engine Marketing and Optimization solutions, and worked as a freelance journalist for many years where I would have to sell newspaper editors on my story ideas.
I believe there is sales in every aspect of life from meeting a potential mate, to finding a job, to music to sports.
A sale for me is persuading others using trust, substance, and value to achieve a desired goal.
Who Are Some Of Your Role Models?
Simon Cowell, Gary Vaynerchuk, Gordon Ramsay, Kevin O’Leary, Pat Flynn.
In their respective industries they are straight to the point, they work hard and they don’t bs.
I respect that because it isn’t always easy to tell people they are wrong and these guys have built their careers on the premise of helping others by telling them what is right and ALSO what is wrong with their business or life.
Where did you learn how to build websites and all this internet stuff?
You write a lot about B2B sales but I am in b2c sales. Can you help me?
Yes, many of my posts can be applied to both but I tend to talk about pitching business owners a lot because in B2B sales business owners are the target prospect.
